Product Description

Whirl N Twirl is the one that runs itself. A motor drives the toothed lift wheel, carrying marbles to the top of the frame and releasing them onto the upper track. From there they find three ways down: a helical spiral, a zigzag switchback, and a long sweeping curve back to the base, where the wheel picks them up and starts again.

Its 230 laser-cut wooden pieces slot together without glue, and Level 7 earns its number: 4 to 5 hours of gear alignment and test runs before the loop finally closes.

The motor and battery case are in the box. Batteries are not included.

Four evenings and I did not touch my phone once

Four evenings, two cups of chai each, and the helix lift is the best piece of engineering I have assembled in years. The way the marbles get carried up the central spiral and then dropped into the serpentine track is real design thinking, not decoration. I switched it on and watched it run for twenty minutes before I even cleared the table. Level 7 is an honest rating.

Nine days and the courier left it with a neighbour

Nine days to arrive and the courier left it with a neighbour without telling me, so I spent two of those days assuming it was lost. The product deserves five stars and the logistics do not. Once I had it, the build was excellent across five evenings and the mechanism has run without a hitch since. Please look at who you are handing these to in the hills.

Five star kit, four star because there are no spare parts

Four stars only because there are no spares, and I want to be clear that everything else here is five star work. Two hundred and thirty pieces means something will break, and in my case it was one of the thin track supports. I fixed it myself with glue and a steady hand. A small spare parts plate would cost you almost nothing and would remove the single most common complaint on this page.

The plastic bits sit badly next to all that nice wood

The plastic components sit badly next to all that nice wood, both visually and in the hand, and they are the parts I was most careful with because they feel like the weak link. Everything made of wood is excellent. If you moved even the visible plastic parts to wood and left the hidden ones alone the perceived quality would jump for very little cost.

Its a spectacular build! I was a bit bummed out that I couldn't figure out to build it to work

Its a spectacular build! I was a bit bummed out that I couldn't figure out to build it to work perfectly, but the challenge and the journey was still a lot more fun than the final product! Thank you Tactow for making these really cool puzzles! I would love to buy your newest creations as they come out as well!

Good wood, good value, now make a bigger one

Good wood, good value, and it works, which covers most of what I need from a kit. The motion is more interesting than the photographs convey and the finished piece has some actual presence on a shelf. My only real feedback is that I want a bigger version of exactly this, with the same mechanism scaled up. Take the money.

Excellent kit, one gear stalk snapped, please include spares

Excellent kit and one of the small gear stalks snapped while I was seating it, which I managed to rescue with a dab of glue and some patience. It should not be my job to rescue it. With this many pieces something is statistically going to break, so put two spares of the small gears and one spare of the thin pieces in the box and this becomes an easy five stars for everybody.

I expected a puzzle and got a machine

I expected a puzzle and got a machine. The difference matters. There is an actual mechanism here that does something when you power it, and understanding how the lift and the funnel relate to each other while you build it is most of the pleasure. Nothing childish about any of it. Took me the better part of a week in short sessions and I was sorry when it finished.

230 pieces and not one of them fought me

Two hundred and thirty pieces and not one of them fought me, which after some of the kits I have bought online is genuinely remarkable. The gear train at the base is the part I expected to go wrong and it was the smoothest section of the whole build. Big step up from the Loop De Loop in both time and concentration. Please keep making them this hard, there is nothing else in India at this level.

Hardest thing I have built and I finished it. Give us a Level 8

Hardest thing I have built, and I finished it, and I am going to be insufferable about that for a while. The multiple paths mean there is always another section to look forward to rather than a grind. It is a display piece now and it is the first thing anybody comments on. Please make a Level 8, there is clearly an audience of us who have run out of things to build.

Four kits in and the newest one is the best one

Four kits in now and the range has got steadily better, which is the most useful thing I can tell a new buyer. The newest one is the best one. More pieces, more interesting motion, and the instructions have improved noticeably since my first purchase. If you have been put off by an older review, the current builds are not the same product.

Works first try, which with 230 pieces is not nothing

Clean build, no missing parts, works first try, which with two hundred and thirty pieces is not nothing. The gear train is the quiet star of it and the serpentine section is more intricate than the photographs suggest. I had budgeted a week and did it in four evenings because I could not leave it alone. Nothing has loosened in the month since.

I build Gunpla and this holds up

I build Gunpla and have done for years, so I came in with opinions, and this holds up. Different discipline, no nub marks to clean, but the same satisfaction of a sequence that has been thought about. The helix lift in particular has a proper mechanical logic to it. I would buy an interoperable set in a heartbeat if you ever make the tracks connect between kits, that is the obvious next move.

Better wood than the imported marble runs I have built

This is a proper adult kit and should be sold as one. I have built two Chinese marble runs of a similar size before and the plywood here is denser, the cuts are cleaner, and the pieces do not have that fuzzy burnt edge you get from a cheap laser. The helix is the standout. At this price against the imports it is an easy recommendation, and I say that as somebody who was sceptical about an Indian brand doing this.

We fought twice about one piece and then it worked

Did this one with my husband across a weekend and it very nearly ended in divorce over a single piece that we were both convinced the other had fitted backwards. He was right, for the record. Once past that the serpentine track went together quickly and the vortex funnel is worth the whole price on its own. Ten out of ten for the marriage, eventually.

S
Sandeep Grewal
The vortex funnel section is pure satisfaction

Took me six sittings spread over two weeks and I was in no hurry. The vortex funnel section is pure satisfaction, you can hear the marble change pitch as it spirals down. The big gear train at the bottom needed careful alignment and rewarded it. An Indian brand doing this at this standard is a genuinely nice surprise and I will be buying whatever you release next.

Finished everything you sell, now what

Solid build and I want harder. I have now finished everything in the range and the top of your line is where I started rather than where I ended up. The multiple paths are the right direction, so push further in it, more pieces, more interdependent mechanisms, something that takes a fortnight. There is clearly a group of us in these reviews asking for the same thing.

Marbles stick at one junction about one run in ten

Marbles stick at one junction on roughly one run in ten, usually where the serpentine track meets the lower coil, and a bit of patient adjustment with the track angle improved it without fixing it entirely. Even allowing for that this is the most fun I have had with a kit, and the helix and funnel sections are superb. Tighten the tolerance on that one junction and it is faultless.
